Registration essentials
Does your business need to register for UAE VAT?
Your activities, taxable supplies and imports matter—not simply whether your company is new or based in a free zone.
For UAE-resident businesses, the main thresholds are assessed over the previous 12 months or where the threshold is expected to be exceeded in the next 30 days.
Source: Federal Tax Authority — VAT registration. Your specific circumstances should be reviewed before acting.
Taxable supplies and imports exceeding this threshold generally trigger mandatory registration for a UAE-resident business.
VOLUNTARY REGISTRATIONAED 187,500
Eligible businesses may apply based on taxable supplies and imports, or qualifying taxable expenses, above this threshold.
Non-resident businesses can have registration obligations without the usual turnover threshold. Exempt supplies, designated-zone rules and cross-border transactions also need separate consideration.

Your questions, answered
VAT services FAQs.
Is the initial consultation free?
Yes. GrowBox offers a free initial consultation to understand your requirements and discuss suitable support. Registration, return filing and other professional work are scoped and quoted separately.
Do free zone companies need VAT registration?
They can. Being established in a free zone does not automatically remove VAT obligations. Registration thresholds and the nature of your supplies must be assessed, while specific designated-zone rules may affect certain transactions.
How often must I file a VAT return?
Your assigned tax period and due date appear in your FTA account. VAT returns and payment are generally due within 28 days after the end of the tax period. Check the actual deadline shown for your business and allow time for review and payment.
Do I need to file if there were no sales?
A VAT-registered business generally still needs to submit a return for its assigned tax period, even where it has no transactions. Review the position before assuming there is nothing to file.
Can all VAT on business expenses be recovered?
No. Input VAT recovery depends on the nature of the expense, its business use, supporting tax invoices and applicable restrictions. Mixed-use expenses and exempt activities need particular care.
Can you help if a previous return contains an error?
Yes, we can review the circumstances and discuss corrections support. The appropriate route depends on the type and value of the error and the applicable rules. Do not assume that every error can simply be adjusted in the next return.
Are VAT and corporate tax the same?
No. They are separate taxes with different registration, calculation and filing requirements. A VAT registration or return does not replace your corporate tax obligations.
How much do your VAT services cost?
Fees depend on the service, transaction volume, complexity and condition of your records. Tell us what you need during your free initial consultation so we can confirm the scope and provide a suitable quote.
General information only. Requirements depend on your circumstances and current FTA rules.
